Store Assistant Manager

Job Purpose


The main job duty of the assistant manager is to help the store manager in the smooth and profitable operation of the business.  The assistant manager should assist the store manager in all aspects related to improving the store's sales and profits by attracting more shoppers, providing better customer service, and selling more goods.  This includes a well-staffed and well trained team of employees, a clean and well organized store and merchandise that is high quality, correctly priced and displayed well.  Additionally, the assistant manager should reinforce the company standards and objectives at all times.


Duties and responsibilities


  • Responsible for the overall appearance of the store from the parking lot thru the store to the back.  Always looking for issues and opportunities.

  • Responsible for Payroll daily and weekly

  • Responsible for issuing attendance points and write-ups for attendance violations

  • Responsible for writing the schedule and staffing the store

  • Ensuring all employees are busy and have high energy when at work.  Members of the management team need to set the example. 

  • Resolve employee issues and maintain employee moral

  • Manage the runners – ensuring they are meeting the standard for rack times and accuracy

  • Responsible for all POS issue and procedures

  • Must be able to price anything in the store

  • Must be able to perform any position in the store

  • Responsible for entering the Green Sheet data and filling out all financial forms weekly

  • Implement and enforce company procedures in all areas

  • Responsible for the product on the sales floor.  Ensuring it is well organized, shop-able and the quality is according to the company standards.

  • Ensure all grid walls are switched out every 2-3 days and that display cases are cleaned and maintained

  • Ensure the Red Book is being used by all shifts and that any issues recorded in the Red Book are addressed timely





  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must be able to multi-task

  • Must be a self-starter

  • Effective communication skills – both oral and written

  • Ability to give direction

  • Ability to use discernment in situations

  • Advanced computer skills


Working conditions


This can be a high stress position.  There is an expectation for the management team to meet the goals and targets set for the store.  The management team is expected to be able to handle that pressure and be able to maintain a positive attitude with the staff in the face of pressure.  Long hours are sometimes required.
